Advances in Fluid Technologies for Offshore Drilling

Thursday 5 May
312
Technical / Poster Session
This session discusses a novel development and field application of offshore fluid technologies for preventing reservoir damage, improving operation efficiency and safety. A new design of drilling fluid, drill-in fluid, spacer and breaker formulations is thoroughly evaluated via laboratory testing and field trial in order to demonstrate its attributes. A comprehensive fluids compatibility study between designed fluids and native reservoir fluids is presented in order to properly select drill-in and completion fluid for operation optimization. Finally, a systematic study of annular flow patterns and pressure gradient are discussed as a means to detect early signs of kick symptoms in the wellbore annulus to minimize risk of blowout in offshore drilling.
