From the Paris Agreement’s net-zero goals, to geopolitics that accelerate concerns around energy security, to government incentives and policies that encourage investments in clean technologies, the energy landscape is changing. While wind and solar have been the darlings of the past decade as efficiency and scale have driven down costs, newer, unproven technologies such as hydrogen are the latest glint in investors’ eyes. And yet, for the past half century, one tried and true technology has remained relatively untapped—geothermal. In this panel discussion, we’ll explore why geothermal has been underexploited to date, despite being the only remaining source of clean, 24/7 energy.
